Picnic as a growing organization
Picnic was founded in 2015 in the Netherlands with just four electric delivery vans. Today, Picnic operates the largest fleet of electric delivery vehicles in Europe, with over 2,000 vehicles delivering groceries to hundreds of thousands of customers. Through the Picnic app, customers can order the same products as in a supermarket—at the lowest prices—and have them delivered to their door for free.
Picnic expands into new cities every month and was recognized in 2019 as the fastest-growing company in the Netherlands. Its expansion into other countries, such as Germany in 2017 and recently France, highlights Picnic’s ambition to provide sustainable delivery solutions. With a strong focus on technology, Picnic aims to offer innovative and efficient home delivery services to customers across Europe.

The challenge
Picnic's rapid growth brought the need for new and efficient operational systems. Manual processes for managing devices and orders were reaching their limits. Delivery drivers, or ‘runners’, depend on optimally functioning systems during their work. When the batteries of their devices start to run down, deliveries can be delayed. Moreover, security and compliance are critical, and it is not feasible to place a technician at every location to configure devices.
Picnic was looking for a solution that would not only improve operational efficiency, but also enable reliable and secure operation of their technology, regardless of the location of their delivery drivers.

Reverse IT's solution for Picnic
Reverse IT helped Picnic by proposing and implementing SOTI technology, leading to significant improvements in operations and increased reliability of their devices. With the integration of SOTI technology, errors that occur while working can now be corrected remotely by a single specialist. With battery status and inventory now instantly visible, Picnic can identify problems within seconds and proactively charge or replace mobile devices before they are deployed for deliveries.
This solution has improved the runners' user experience, as they now receive continuous support during their journeys. Runners' mobile terminals are always equipped with a full battery and the latest software updates. Thanks to SOTI MobiControl, the leading Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) solution, Picnic can now manage all Android devices running on different operating systems. This ensures uniform and reliable operation of their technology, allowing Picnic to continue delivering its delivery services in the best possible way.

Results
Before implementing SOTI MobiControl, setting up a new device took around 20 minutes; that time has now been reduced to approximately 3 minutes. Picnic now manages over 4,000 devices with SOTI MobiControl, saving roughly 70 days of manual work. Device downtime has been significantly reduced, and operational efficiency has improved. Security and compliance are also very important to Picnic, as the company can easily provide all employees with clear and safe device usage guidelines.
In April 2023, Picnic and Reverse IT further strengthened their existing relationship, extending their collaboration for several more years.
