Revising warehouse processes and the management system

The supermarket chain MATCH, based in Europe, was founded in 1875 and has more than 122 stores in Belgium and Luxembourg. The MATCH chain is part of the Louis Delhaize Group NV, a leading regional food retailer with operations in northeastern France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Romania.

MATCH now has the ability to compete
Supermarché MATCH is a multinational supermarket chain with more than 220 stores across Belgium, France, and Luxembourg. To meet the growing demands and expectations of their customers, MATCH began revising its warehouse processes and management systems. They implemented the VNA (Very Narrow Aisle) methodology, which narrows aisle widths by 1 meter compared to traditional aisles, allowing MATCH to maximize inventory on every square meter of floor space.
The VNA warehouse model pays special attention to organizing the order picking process and reorganizing the picking locations to minimize the distance between them. MATCH conducted research to find a long-term solution to automate their manual inventory management system and optimize their workflow. The company focused primarily on increasing employee productivity and performance. Therefore, a device was implemented that is versatile, durable, and user-friendly, which can be used across all aspects of the workflow. The device needed to be robust, full-touch, portable, and equipped with a long-range scanner. It also needed to integrate seamlessly with forklift operations.

Challenge and needs
MATCH needed to implement an all-in-one device in their workflow that could offer a comprehensive solution in an ergonomic, durable, and versatile package. Knowing that the device would need to function in a warehouse environment, MATCH required the solution to be user-friendly yet durable, capable of withstanding long-term use. Furthermore, they needed a solution that would provide the best price-performance ratio in the long run, helping them reduce their total cost of ownership.
MATCH needed a device that could perform exceptionally well across three shifts: from inventory receipt to inventory management, and also from order picking to distribution. The device implementation among staff was not the only challenge. They needed a device that could integrate with their warehouse management software (WMS), Openbravo. Additionally, to modernize their workflow within the warehouse, the device needed to complement their existing RFI and RFP information.
The solution
After researching multiple devices and companies, MATCH decided that Honeywell partner Reverse IT was the best choice and capable of offering a long-term solution in the form of the CT60 XP, which directly met their needs. The versatility of the devices allowed them to be implemented in either a wearable or handheld, scan-gun configuration, enabling employees to comfortably and easily pick and scan items at both short and long distances. This was particularly important for MATCH's VNA (Very Narrow Aisle) operations, where employees need to scan barcodes up to 10 meters away. Operating on the Android platform also ensured that the devices would continue to function effectively for years within their operations.
MATCH was even able to further reduce the total cost of ownership by selecting the CT60 XP, which was supported by the Mobility Edge™ platform, ensuring the equipment would be viable for a longer period. Additionally, the solution enabled MATCH to track inventory levels and employee productivity in real-time. The CT60 XP integrated well with MATCH’s Openbravo warehouse management system, allowing for quick implementation without significant downtime or changes to the operating system environment.
MATCH improved warehouse productivity with the smart task management feature, which automatically presented a list of tasks in order of priority and travel sequence to warehouse staff via the CT60 XP. Working on the Android platform and being able to roll out everything within a few months confirmed to MATCH that Reverse IT’s recommendation of the CT60 XP was the right choice. Over the past year, MATCH has been able to successfully optimize their business operations.
Future
Supermarché MATCH has successfully transformed its supply chain strategy. They have adopted a unified omnichannel approach and optimized every square meter of their warehouse in Dudelange. MATCH now has the flexibility needed to complete operations in record time at a highly competitive price.
MATCH collaborated with the right partners who not only understood their immediate needs but also ensured their investments were future-proof. The CT60 XP provided a versatile, user-friendly device that can be used by all operators in the warehouse, regardless of their task. With the CT60 XP, MATCH now has a single device that operates seamlessly across the three different shifts in the MATCH warehouse.
