With a growing flow of goods, the need for more equipment aros

Varo is one of the largest European players in the international distribution of DIY tools, garden tools, hand tools, and accessories. Both their own brands, Powerplus and Kreator, as well as various private labels, are sold in DIY stores worldwide. Reverse IT and Varo have partnered to renew their barcode scanners to keep up with the increasing flow of goods and improve operational efficiency.

In Lier, Belgium, Varo operates a modern office with a welcoming showroom and a large 21,000 m² distribution center, housing over 40,000 pallets of DIY tools. The inbound and outbound goods processes are supported by advanced ICT solutions. Recently, Varo invested in new, modern barcode scanners to meet the growing demand.
Although Varo has been benefiting from barcode scanners in combination with the Locus WMS from Centric for years, the existing equipment had become outdated due to the increasing flow of goods. The investment in new scanners represents a step towards further enhancing efficiency and continuing to meet operational needs.

Practical testing phase
Reverse IT has been working with Varo for years, providing support and repair services for their equipment. Additionally, they temporarily rented equipment to bridge the period of renewal. This allowed them to be involved early in the process of selecting new devices and helped Varo choose the best options based on their needs.
During a practical testing phase, Varo was able to compare various models of barcode scanners from different manufacturers. This hands-on testing enabled them to choose the most suitable device for their situation.
Ultimately, Varo selected the Datalogic Skorpio X5. This robust and compact model features a large, clear display and offers fast scanning. One of its advantages is the wireless charging capability via multi-chargers, which prevents contact points from getting dirty or damaged. Some units also have a pistol grip for added comfort. Varo's positive experience with Datalogic continues with the Skorpio X5, which serves as an excellent successor to the Skorpio X3 for warehouse applications.
Circular economy
After the delivery, configuration, and commissioning of the new equipment, Reverse IT took the old devices for refurbishing.
By giving these refurbished devices a second life, Reverse IT not only helps reduce electronic waste but also minimizes the environmental impact associated with manufacturing new equipment. This approach contributes to sustainability by lowering the demand for new raw materials and reducing the overall carbon footprint. Through refurbishing, Reverse IT ensures that devices continue to deliver reliable performance while promoting a circular economy model, where products are reused, repurposed, and recycled instead of being discarded.
