Varo optimizes warehouse processes with new Datalogic Skorpio X5 scanners
In Lier, Belgium, Varo operates a modern office with a welcoming showroom and a 21,000 m² distribution center, storing over 40,000 pallets of DIY tools. The inbound and outbound goods processes are supported by advanced ICT solutions. To meet growing demand, Varo recently invested in modern barcode scanners.
Varo has long benefited from using barcode scanners in combination with Centric’s Locus WMS. However, due to increased goods flows, the existing equipment had become outdated. With the investment in new scanners, Varo aims to further optimize warehouse processes and meet growing operational needs.

Practical testing phase
Together with Reverse IT, which has supported Varo for years with device support, repairs, and temporary equipment, Varo tested several barcode scanner models. During this hands-on testing phase, the scanners were compared for speed, durability, and ease of use, allowing the team to select the optimal solution for their specific warehouse processes..

Datalogic Skorpio X5
Varo chose the Datalogic Skorpio X5, a compact and robust barcode scanner featuring a large, bright display and fast, accurate scanning. Thanks to wireless charging via multi-chargers, contact points stay clean and wear is minimized. Some models include a pistol grip for extra comfort during extended use.
The Skorpio X5 is the ideal successor to the Skorpio X3, delivering reliable performance in busy warehouses. It supports both 1D and 2D codes and is resistant to shocks and dust. With this durable and user-friendly solution, Varo increases warehouse productivity and operational efficiency.

Contribution to the circular economy
After implementing the new scanners, Reverse IT took back the old equipment for refurbishing. During this process, the devices are thoroughly repaired, upgraded, and prepared for a second life. This allows Varo to redeploy the older scanners, extending the hardware’s lifespan and supporting sustainable warehouse management.
By giving old devices a second life, Varo reduces electronic waste and lowers the demand for new raw materials. In this way, the company combines warehouse efficiency with a conscious, environmentally friendly approach.
